You Might Be A Redneck...

If you strap a car seat on the back of your pontoon boat so you can take your kids with you down the river...you might be a Redneck.

On Saturday Tony and his brother Nathan wanted to float down a stretch of the Teton River.  They strapped a car seat to the back of each boat for the kids to sit in.  I thought it was ingenious and hilarious at the same time!

Tony's setup.
Nathan's setup.
The kids all ready to go.  Life jackets and all.
Alaina's ready!
Carson too!
Setting off.

It was a really beautiful day for floating down the river.  Part of me wanted to go too.  Maybe next time.  They didn't go as far as they had originally planned, but they still had a good time.

Fishing

Uncle Nathan took Carson fishing on Monday.  Carson didn't catch any himself, but he got to help real in this bad boy!  By the look on Carson's face I don't think he minded.  Don't you just love Carson's "Fishing Hat"?

Haircut

As of late Alaina's been driving me crazy when it comes to her hair.  She won't let me brush it, or fix it and most of the time it looks like a rat's nest!  Last Saturday morning I was having the usual fight with her about her hair.  I told her that if she didn't let me fix it then we were going to get it cut.  To my surprise she said, "ok".  So Alaina and I promptly left for the local hair school and got our hair cut.  I just got a trim, but Alaina's hair is quite a bit shorter.  She loves it and it's much more manageable.  Part of me misses her long curly hair, but I don't miss the fights each morning while trying to fix her hair.

My Boys

The other day I found my boys playing in their room together!  They were so cute.  I hope that they'll always get along so well, but I'm pretty sure that as they get older these moments will be less often.  So I'll enjoy them while they last.

Memorial Day

For Memorial Day Weekend this year we had planned to go camping.  The weather was beautiful and warm up until that weekend.  We were really bummed!  It rained and was cold all weekend long.  It even snowed in the mountains!  We would have been miserable if we'd gone camping so it's probably better that we didn't go.  Especially with having a baby.  So we made the best of it.  We hung out, Tony took the kids to a movie, and we had a dutch oven dinner.  Tony and his brother Nathan did the cookout in our garage because of the rain.  It was really yummy!

We made Enchiladas, Corn Bread, and Apple Crisp.

Aimee's Cake

Tony's cousin got married a couple weeks ago and they asked me to do their cake.  They got married in Logan, UT and then had an open house in Pocatello, ID the following week.  That cake traveled from Rexburg, ID to Logan, UT to Pocatello, Id and it traveled pretty well.  With the exception of two little girls who got a hold of the cake in transit.  We patched it up and managed to make it look good once again.

Getting started.  The entire cake was a dummy cake.  A real cake just wouldn't have traveled that much very well.  I spent each nap time the day before the cake was to be picked up kneading and dying the fondant, and making and dying the frosting so that everything would be ready for assembling and decorating at bedtime.
I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. to work on the cake that night. The cake took a total of 10 hours to do.  I did all the decorating after my kids went to bed because I wanted to get the whole thing done without any distractions from my little ones.  I knew the constant "can I help?" or "can I watch?"  would have gotten really annoying after awhile.  I was tired the next morning, but I was happy with the outcome.
Each tier of the cake ready for transit.

When ever I get someone ask me to do their wedding cake I'm always a bit apprehensive.  I know how important it is to each Bride to have their wedding just as they imagined, and I don't want my cake to not live up to their expectations.  Thankfully after I'm done with each cake I'm very pleased with the result and my brides are usually thrilled also.  I think this one turned out especially well.  With each cake I do, my confidence level goes up a little more.  Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to do customer cakes again...maybe.
