10 Minute Snowman

Yesterday the kids asked to make a snowman.  I figured that the snow wasn't going to be around much longer and that I'd humor them.  Little did I know it would snow again and here it is Saturday night and the snow is still here.  I'm still hoping it'll melt before Wednesday for Halloween festivities.  Anyway I spent about 10 minutes making this snowman "with" the kids and about 10 minutes after this picture was taken it came tumbling down.  I wasn't too heartbroken and thankfully neither were the kids.

With the 6+ inches of snow we've received over the last few days I was ambitious and shoveled the driveway and walk, and boy did I pay for it the next day.  Originally I only shoveled one lane of the driveway.  We only have one working car right now and I really didn't want to shovel the rest.  Carson decided that he was going to shovel the rest of the driveway in case someone namely Nathan and Maegen decided to come over they would have a place to park out of the snow.  So I let the kids at it.  After a few passes they decided they were through, and guess who had the joy of finishing what they started?  I will admit that there was a lot of wet snow which is heavy and can tire a little one out.  Heck it tired this big one out!

Snow

Today is October 25th (yes, it's not even Halloween yet) and this is what we woke up to this morning.  I was quite surprised.  The weather said we had a 30% chance of snow today.  Well at 7:30 this morning we had about 4+- inches of snow.  Well it is now 10:30 and it's still snowing!

Tony's Hunting Trip

I am not a hunter and to say that I could care less about a dead carcass hanging in my garage would be an understatement.  But my husband likes to go.  It gives him an opportunity to spend time in the great outdoors and some quality time with his dad and brothers.  So how can I say no?  This year they went up near Soda Springs, Idaho and had some success.  Nathan and Thomas were each able to bring down a buck.  Tony and his dad got a shots off.  Maybe next year Tony will be able to bring one in as well and then I'll have to figure out what in the heck to do with all that venison.

Alaina's Skirt cont.

So I sewed some ribbon on Alaina's peasant skirt and made a matching hair bow.  I think it looks much cuter.  But I must admit that I've got to get a hot glue gun before I attempt to make any more hair bows.

Apples and Raspberries

So on Tuesday the kids and I picked the apples off our tree and raspberries off a neighbors bush before the cold set in on Wednesday.  I made apple sauce out of about half of our apples, which took forever because the apples are so small, and I made raspberry jam, well more like syrup, but it tastes good.

The raspberries were beautiful and ripe.  We couldn't help but eat a few right off the bush.
The apples are pretty and taste alright, but they are small and pretty wormy.  So lots of cutting out the yucky parts.  The apple sauce tastes good.  But next time I'm going to borrow or buy a food press or sieve so I don't have to peel all the apples.

Silkie

I've been wanting to make Charlie a little silk-like blanket for awhile now.  Alaina had one when she was a baby and still uses it.  The "Silkie" as we call it, it great to take in the diaper bag or such when you don't want to hall around a huge blanket.

Charlie already carries around the house.  It's just the right side that he's not tripping over it all the time.
